YouTube’s Feature Experiments and Tests

What are YouTube feature experiments?

YouTube’s product teams continuously explore new tools and features to enhance how users find, watch, share, and create content. Known as feature experiments or betas, these are generally available for a brief period and to a limited group of users.

If YouTube seems different to you compared to what friends or family experience, you’re probably viewing one of these experiments. YouTube appreciates feedback and reports of technical issues, which help decide the future rollout of these features.

Current Feature Experiments:

YouTube’s TeamYouTube Community Managers are now keeping forum threads updated with interesting ongoing experiments, though not all tests are posted here. It’s a great way to stay informed about new features being tested and to see if you’re part of an experiment. For details on past experiments, you can check out previous posts.

Recent Tests and Innovations:

  • April 16, 2024: Personalized Subscriptions Feed on Mobile
YouTube is testing a “Most Relevant” view in the Subscriptions feed, allowing users to see content they are most likely to enjoy based on recent interactions. This test is currently available to a small percentage of viewers on mobile.

These experiments showcase YouTube’s ongoing commitment to improving user experience through innovative features. Feedback from these tests will determine if and how these features become permanent parts of the YouTube experience.
